Repair Services

ABELtronics has its roots firmly in electronic equipment repair. Initially specialising in audio electronic repair, such as PA gear, Guitar Amplifiers and Hi-Fi equipment, we have branched into industrial, commercial, agricultural and automotive sectors. Our repair philosophy is one of "anything with wires and electricity", and we have maintained this outlook for a number of years.

We can repair PA amplifiers, guitar amplifiers, active loudspeakers, audio effects units, stage lighting equipment, hi-fi amplifiers (valve or solid-state), pre-amplifiers, inverters, battery chargers (both switched-mode and traditional), industrial control equipment and some automotive electronic control technology.

Take a look at the Past Repairs section to see some the more unusual projects undertaken by us, or feel free to Contact Us to discuss your repair requirements.

Past Repairs

Wurlitzer Jukebox

During the summer of 2005, we had the pleasure of working on a Wurlitzer Lyric 45rpm jukebox. A masterpiece of mechanical engineering, the jukebox was in a rather unfortunate state. The control electronics and audio circuitry were missing, so the customer approached us to see what could be done:

The Electronics were stripped out by the previous owner, due to some of the original output transistors exploding. The customer wanted a long-lasting newly designed replacement amplifier module that would improve upon the original...
After careful consideration, we decided to re-design the entire system. Shown here is the replacement PCB, fully equipped with stereo pre-amplification, RIAA equalisation, and final power amplification. We also included an anti-rumble filter and loudspeaker protection circuitry for ultimate longevity.
The underside of the main PCB shows the power supply decoupling capacitors, the original Wurlitzer mains transformer, the speaker protection circuitry, and the pre-amp voltage regulators.
And finally, the finished jukebox installed in the customer's premises, after a full mechanical overhaul and service.

Katya Professional Recording Mixer

This mixer, designed for and once owned by Frank Zappa, came to our attention in the spring of 2007. This wonderful sounding analogue modular mixer had been out of action for over a year, with a string of parasitic oscillation and DC offset problems.

Located in a small recording studio near Aylsham, Norfolk, a beautiful setting to work.
The mixer with all of its thirty-four modules removed. The cause of the oscillation was discovered after much head-scratching, and was found to be a small solder whisker shorting one of the many hundred connections. Each module was then painstakingly inspected and tested for faults, before re-assembly.
The mixer re-assembled, before the main output module is inserted.
