The TOW-1010 is an advanced automotive towing relay and lighting control module designed for controlling the rear lights of American and other import vehicles that require a towbar to be fitted. The module dramatically simplifies the wiring assosciated with such an installation and features various inputs and outputs, including a length of 7-core trailer cable to allow direct connection to a 12N trailer socket. A length of 2-core cable is also provided for direct connection to an aftermarket fog lamp. TOW-1010 also features our unique one-wire self cancelling fog light controller, and will switch up to 30A of current in total.

TOW-1010 is designed to control the rear lights of American and other import vehicles where the brake and indicator signal cannot be separated. The module takes low-current indicator feeds from the front lights, and a low-current brake feed directly from the brake pedal switch or from the high-level beake light. It outputs these signals at up to 30A (total) to the rear indicators and the trailer socket, controlling these high currents in complete safety and with complete transparency to the vehicle's existing lighting control module. A tail light input is also provided which enables the internal fog light controller. Additionally, a buzzer output is provided which sounds when a trailer is connected and the indicators are on. The module features high reliability automotive-grade relays and is hermetically sealed in epoxy resin for resistance to the harsh automotive environment - it is designed to be mounted under the rear bumper or wheelarch of the vehicle.

The TOW-1010 module is connected as shown in the Connection Diagram section. (This does not explain how to perform a light conversion on an import vehicle, it only explains the wiring functions of the various cables on the TOW-1010 module. Additional components may be required to complete the light conversion depending on the vehicle.)

The module should be securely bolted or riveted to a metal panel underneath the vehicle. Convoluted sleeving must be used on all cabling to prevent cable damage.

The + Battery connection (thick brown) should be taken straight to the battery positive terminal using 2.5mm2 cable or greater, via a 25A fuse. The Earth connection (thick blue) should be earthed locally to the chassis. Keep the earth wire as short as possible.

The Fog Light Output should be connected directly to the under-bumper fog light. Earth is included in the cable so there is no need to add another one.

The Sidelights Input (Red) should be 'tee-d' into either the positive of the number plate light, or to the positive of the tail light in the left-hand light cluster.

Two brake outputs are provided for each side for installations where two brake lamps are present in the light cluster. If only one brake lamp is present each side, the black wires can be joined together and connected to it.

The towing buzzer should be fitted within earshot of the driver, and can be cable-tied to the wiring loom in the driver's footwell. It is common to place the buzzer near the fog switch and share the earth connection. The earth connection to fog switch and buzzer should be made directly to the chassis. The fog switch requires a 14mm hole. It will light up dim green when the sidelights are on, matching the existing dash illumination of 90% of vehicles. (The swith is also available in red to match the remaining 10%). One press of the fog switch will activate the fog light, the switch will light up bright green. A further press will deactivate the fog lamp. Turning off the sidelights while the fog lamps are on will automatically cancel the fog light, and it will remain off until re-activated by the switch. This self-cancelling feature is unique to us.
