Our DIMxx series modules are fully self-contained common ground positive switching dimmer modules designed to control the brightness of low voltage filament, halogen or LED lamps rated up to 120W. Operating from 9 to 32V DC, and controlling the load on the high side, the modules can be used in a wide variety of applications where DC low-voltage brightness control is desired, such as 12V or 24V automotive or marine dash-panels, low voltage architectural lighting etc.
The units employ a very efficient PWM switching technique to provide excellent operation for loads up to 120 watts, and they are fully protected against intermittent output short-circuits, input over-voltage and under-voltage conditions. Unlike other low voltage dimmers on the market, the modules will control lamp brightness from 0% (fully off) to 100% (fully on). The units will dim incandescent and LED lamps with ease, and the switching frequency is fast enough to avoid visible lamp flicker and LED colour shift.
The DIM12 uses a potentiometer input to vary the brightness, whereas the DIM13 uses two switches for 'brightness up' and 'brightness down'. The DIM14 is designed to accept a 0-10V control voltage input found on home automation devices and PLCs such as Crestron™ and compatible controllers. Zero volts input turns the lamp fully off, 10V input turns the lamp fully on, and everywhere in between. The DIM14 provides an excellent way to control high power lighting from a Crestron™ or similar controller.
A new addition to the DIM family, the DIM15 is a radio controlled dimmer. Brightness Up, Brightness Down and on/off can be controlled from a small key-fob radio transmitter that's small enough to fit on a keyring. Featuring a built-in antenna and highly secure 'code-hopping' transmission protocol. See the datasheet for more information. The DIM10 module is designed to bolt on to one of the other DIMxx series to increase its power. Up to 100 DIM10s can be connected to a single controller providing control for up to 12kW of lighting. Yes - 12,000 watts.
Applications include:
- Low voltage architectural lighting
- Automotive and marine dash panels and lighting
- LED dimming and control
- Wireless Dimming
- Low voltage household lighting
- Pond lighting
- Low voltage mood lighting
- Hazardous area lighting
- Electric motor speed control
- Crestron™ controlled low-voltage dimming
- Home Automation dimming interface
- Remote Controlled Lighting
The DIM12 will also work with any resistance upto 10k at its input. Connecting a thermistor to the DIM12 'pot input' for example will allow the lamp brightness to be controlled by temperature. All the modules work on the high-side, meaning the earth is common to both the supply and load. The units are sealed in epoxy resin, and are fully protected against water and oils. The DIM13 is not supplied with a switch to allow the user to customise the switch to his/her application, but the DIM12 is supplied with a suitable potentiometer. The DIM13 remembers the lamp dimming setting even after power to the module is removed.
IP68 rated, fully sealed and wire-ended versions of all the dimmer modules are available (see images above). Please contact us for further information.
